Pros: NONE will not let me install CD key Cons: will not let me install CD key Overall Review: the only reason I purchsed this is Norton's will not let me renew because they dont accept debit cards I have purchased oem versions of this in the past for the same reason with no problems.
Looking at our exchange logs I see nothing to indicate that was the source of infection. In my experience, Spybot Search and Destroy does a good job of removing Antivirus and Antivirus I do think, however, that I had to boot in Safe Mode to completely remove the version.
We use CA also and it passed through without being detected. Thankyou for this interesting article Leo. I have come across this particular infection several times over the last few months, and I could not see anobvious way that it got into the systems. Antivirus programs were up to date in all cases. Prevents all scripts from running unless you give them permission to do so.
A couple of weeks back now I had the same thing happen to me also. Fortunately I knew something was wrong and never downloaded the file. At the time I had up to date definitions for Kaspersky AV. I check Manually on the hour and every hour. An easy way to get of any virus, and a good reason to keep System Restore enabled.
This leads to additional infections getting on the pc. I can say for sure that it gets by Mcafee completely. Each of these products include firewalls. I use Malwarebytes to remove it. But if it has been running on the system for a day or longer it may have pulled down more malware. Also I clean out all temporary files before and after the cleanup with Ccleaner. All are free programs. I recommend AVG for Antivirus protection. Windows defender I find to be almost useless and Spybot has become slow, bloated and tends to miss alot of malware.
The same is true of Adaware. I no longer waste my time with these apps. I would not depend on them to keep your system safe. Newer versions of Antivirus XP do the following to your computer, among other things, and unfortunately all these keep us wondering about what people at Microsoft have been doing to increase our computer security. Blusod and Trojan.
For example:. Microsoft Windows protects and prevents deletion of this critical program by regenerating it immediately. I tried to copy and rename my Notepad. Remember the Safe Mode was also rendered unavailable to me by the virus. I cannot overemphasize how important this file is in providing or not providing malicious services to your computer!!! The sales pitch was accompanied by many scary things that how dangerous this virus was, how I might lose my entire data and programs permanently, and how I might still have the virus even after reformatting my hard disk and starting with a fresh install of Windows, if I did it myself.
So I downloaded the Spyware Doctor and run it to test my computer. It reported yes, my computer was infected with Antivirus XP but I had to buy their registered version in order to remove it Does this ring a bell? Another trend unfortunately fermenting is the proliferation of so many companies and websites claiming their Antivirus programs are the ultimate answer to our virus problems.
We badly need special standards for naming and categorizing viruses so a claim of one company can be verified by an antivirus program from another. I read the articles and I had a simular problem but mine was antivirus and I didnt open it my virus protector didnt catch so I uninstalled it in control pannel as it was there and then it kept moving around and poping up in different files on my computer.
Every time I deleted it it changed the name finally my spyeraser caught it and removed it. I know how you feel. Cant trust anything. The free Malwarebytes removes it. Also, ComboFix at wwww. I use these two progs. Before running Combofix there is a tutorial that should be read. Given that both AOL and Yahoo have suffered large-scale attacks in recent months, it's odd that Norton doesn't yet support the latest versions of these.
What Norton Internet Security doesn't include is backup and restore protection or PC maintenance--both of which are provided in the less expensive McAfee Internet Security Symantec did beta test another product this summer, however, Norton Anti-Bot is not available in any of the traditional Norton security products.
As such, Anti-bot is simply not worth it a standalone product. We look forward to Symantec adding PC utilities such as backup and including its antibot technology to next year's release of Norton Internet Security. On our iTunes test, Norton AntiVirus was in the middle of the pack, just 3 seconds above our test system. For scanning a single folder with files, Norton AntiVirus came in near the middle with seconds.
And in boot speed, Norton AntiVirus came in last place, with a sluggish 40 seconds. In terms of protecting your PC, we cite results from two leading independent antivirus testing organizations. In the latest test results from AV-Comparatives. For antispyware protection, Norton fell from last year's heights but remained solidly in the middle of the pack in our CNET antispyware tests.
In the first test, active detection, Norton discovered about 60 percent of the spyware; in the second, on demand test, Norton detected about 55 percent of the spyware; and in the final, removal test, Norton removed all traces of about half the spyware placed on our infected machine.
Support While Symantec continues to improve its technical support experience, Norton Internet Security also reverts to its old ways. Symantec provides a fairly light page user's manual that mostly addresses how to install the product, not use it. Like last year, Symantec's support options include an automatic diagnostic tool for the program.
It's worth noting that one of the comments it made is: "Your computer runs slowly after installing Norton Internet Security ," which leads us to believe that many people have like us experienced this condition. There's also free chat, free e-mail, and telephone service. But after an absence of one or two years, advertising once again creeps back into the Symantec's technical support section in the guise of "Expert Services" and "PC Tune Up.
In the PC Tune Up scenario, you call up, are charged, and a Symantec technician remotely accesses your PC to resolve any problems you might be having at that time. Unlike Kaspersky, Symantec doesn't yet maintain its own users forum. Conclusion Because of its dominant place in the market, we hold Symantec to higher standards. We were disappointed this year. Norton Internet Security , despite Symantec's efforts, still feels heavy, largely burdened by its own corporate legacy and dependency on other Symantec products.
The return of paid services under technical support seems unfair, given the lack of a free users forum. In a strictly Norton versus McAfee universe, we give the nod to McAfee this year; beyond these two products, however, we feel there are other suites that provide equivalent security protection and integrate their tools much better for much less money than Norton Internet Security Robert Vamosi. The Good Norton Internet Security offers solid protection for your desktop.
The Norton Internet Security interface is ghastly, the suite itself can slow your computer to a crawl, its feature set doesn't integrate well, and Symantec is once again offering fee-based services under the guise of technical support. While Symantec's protection is solid, the overall user experience within Norton Internet Security could be much, much better.
Not all the features work together, and the program could use fewer system resources. We can also do without the addition of paid services within the technical support section.
