Can you let us know who you contacted at Yamaha Canada because I called them on Thursday and spoke to the Service Department; they told me they had never heard of this upgrade.
They also told me that they had no control over what Microsoft did with their software. The Yamaha Canada service depot in Toronto upgraded the firmware of my RXN this morning and everything looks to be working again.
So far I am stuck with this receiver and cant access my pc songs. I have a question for you guys that got it working. In the manual it says that you can browse by trees, but people are saying that it cant be done. That there is also a limit as to how many songs can be browsed at the time.
I know it has the 8 listings at the time for internet radio, is this the same for pc songs? I ripped a couple of hundred of my CD's on to the laptop and they all seem to be accessible although browsing them is not particularly pleasant. Thanks for the info. I still cant believe that the firmware can be different for Japanese and Canadian products. Its the same machine, why would they go through all that trouble.
I was in the Yamaha site and people can download a software for programmers to edit their firmwares. I think its java based, not sure. Maybe someone can edit the whole GUI and make it better. Not really. I have 14 days to return it. The firmware arrived on Friday for the US market. I am taking mine in today. I still have until the 20th to see if I like it. As long as it can play my songs in the order I place them in the wmp11, I think I'll be happy.
The guys at the place had not even looked at it. I was the first one with the issue. He said he did not see it and to take it in to the service center.
Oh well, sorry I could not get the firmware file. But someday, someday, mark my words!!!! I contacted Yamaha Tech Support on Jan 11th , to inquire again on the firmware update. I had a couple of home theater guys coming out the following day to fine tune the system the next day. I wanted to confirm two things first that there was a firmware upgrade and secondly it would not reset any settings that had been done by the techs.
I told Yamaha Support that if there was no firmware update I was planning on returning the receiver and cancel the setup scheduled. If there was a firmware upgrade, but reset the system settings I would reschedule the system setup date. Where are you?
