Thursday, April 16, PM. See if a Manual came with the computer, or go to the Manufacturer's website, email or phone them for info on how to do a Recovery. Each manufacturer has their own way of doing a Recovery to factory standards. And save all your Data before you do it, as a reinstall wipes everything from your Hard Drive.. Was this reply helpful? Nothing from the F8 options on repair, safe mode and other works. I get the same all the time - black screen with the same white cursor. I do care that my files and data remain existing on the laptop, but even if Vista has to be completely reinstalled with the loss of all my data, well Exactly the same problem as I am having is described by Microsoft as non-fixable one and the operative system requires reinstallation or parallel installation.

My laptop was purchased with the Windows Vista Home Edition preinstalled at a computer store and I made 2 recovery DVDs that I cannot use right now as I don't know how to make them work on such a corrupted system.

Would really appreciate any help!
