Thank you. Sunday, August 17, AM. I think what your forgetting is that many of Luna's basic features were disable as well.
If fact many of them. I guess the question is, is it really that important if it's classic or vista basic? Are bells and whistles more important than performance? What does Vista basic offer that classic doesn't? Extra management? I'm really, truly curious as to why this is considered so important.
Sunday, August 17, PM. Just because something isn't important for you Jeff, doesn't mean it isn't important for another person. If I was just using 's RDP functionality for a "log on for 5 mins to change something, then log off" type scenario, I wouldn't bother. But I'm not. The classic look is now 13 years old!! Isn't it time for even the server side to catch up a little?
Also what features of Luna are you referring to that were disabled? That is why I asked why it's important because I truly don't understand. When I'm working, I'm looking at applications and getting my work done, not caring about the interface and if the menu's are rounded or squared.
Luna had many pieces missing such as how resizing worked, menu's popped up, etc. Lots of little things that add much needed overhead to the end user experience. Why do you need to understand though? Can't you just accept that everyone is different and everyone has different opinions?
You don't, but that doesn't make me or the other posters in this topic wrong. All I want is nice window borders and a nice taskbar to look at. TS turns most of those features off by default. I never said anyonen else was wrong. Your taking it my inquiry and turning it around.
Please forgive me for actually trying to understand why you want those features and maybe even help you figure them out. Conti [MVP] 0. Sorry to get into your Topic guys but now I'm a bit confused.
Not in Admin session but still. So what is wrong with that, or what else you want Ryster? Sorry I'm just curious because I'm not using Vista that much as to notice the fine details although it is my primary system. I would just love what I'm missing. Alright, you mean the administrative RDP connection, because this requirment pop's up and goes down during the length of this thread.
I think I read somewhere that it was a Licensing decision. Edited by Alex Cooper a. Vista Aero Basic is available in server You will have to restart your computer one or more times during this setup.
NOTE: This will cause the server to issue temporary licenses days to all clients. You can still only have two accounts since you haven't installed any CALs, but you don't have to stay in Remote Desktop Administration mode. This removes the temporary CAL, forcing the server to generate a new one. I believe these are set up by device, so you have to do this for every device that you use to connect to the server. I've been doing this for years with my 2k3 server.
Install the Desktop Experience Feature in server Set the service "Themes" to Automatic. Start the Themes Service. Connect to terminal server. Using Personalize right-click menu item from the desktop, change the theme to Windows Vista.
Click OK. After a short moment, the screen will re-draw the OS elements using the Vista Basic theme. However, this looks a lot better than the Windows Classic theme. You may have to close any windows and re-open them as they have a tendency to make the UI elements a bit scrambled. Friday, September 5, PM. That's great info Brad. Do you know if this works over Remote Desktop for admin as well? Saturday, September 6, PM.
This doesn't work in Remote Desktop for Administration mode. Don't ask me why; I don't know :P. You must install the terminal server role in order to get vista basic in terminal services. That's what I thought but it's always good to have confirmation. Thanks a ton.
Sunday, September 7, PM. Every time I RDP, this is set 0 and everytime the system disconnects this value is not present and seems to inherit 1. Best Home Theater Systems. Best Smartwatches.
